Purchaing the Right Kayaking Gear is Top Priority

The first piece of gear is, of course, the kayak. Go to a reputable dealer who actually knows something about kayaking and is not just selling kayaks. The first choice you need to make is whether to buy a rigid, folding, or inflatable boat. (Most people buy a rigid boat.) Secondary kayaking gear, but still essential, includes a helmet, paddle, and skirt

Purchasing Kayaking Gear

If you intend to participate in the growing sport of kayaking, you will need a place to find the right kayaking gear. You will need to find a place that sells kayaks, kayak helmets, paddles, clothing, and accessories to a high level because you will want your gear to be the best it possibly can be. Don’t take chances with your kayaking gear because you could be putting your safety at risk by using the wrong equipment. Instead, be sure that you know what you are getting into and ask the experts in terms of kayaking gear to ensure that you get the best stuff that money can buy. If you are not getting the best stuff, you are getting second best and that may not be good enough.

The first thing you will choose will be a kayak. You need to know if you are buying the right style, if you are paying the right price, and if you are using the right dealer. There are three classifications of kayaks: rigid kayaks made of plastic, fibreglass, or wood materials, folding boats, and inflatable boats. The rigid kayak is likely going to be the kayak you will purchase and is the most commonly kayak that is purchased. The plastic kayak is the least expensive and the fibreglass kayak is the lightest. Plastic boats are usually tougher than the fibreglass kayak, but can be difficult to repair once damaged.

Other Gear

Finding the right paddle, in terms of effective kayaking gear, isn’t really all that complicated. You should consider the type of paddling you will be doing, your own height and body strength, and the width and height of your kayak in order to determine how you will find the best kayak paddle for your purchase price. Once decided, you will need to look at the blade length and shape, the shaft length and shape, and finally the materials used to construct the paddle before you make your final decision. Once again, this all depends on the type of kayaking you plan on doing.

You will also need safety equipment like helmets and personal floatation devices. Anyone you are buying kayaking gear from should be able to fix you up with the right fit of this kayaking gear. You should wear a certain classification of floatation device for the kayaking trips you go on; most recommend a US Coast Guard Class 3 floatation device for maximum protection but the state minimums in your area may deviate.
