SEA KAYAKING IN CHILE
Chile is a coveted destination among paddlers for its sea kayaking potential. The Patagonia region in the south is remote and wild. You'll encounter a landscape similar to Alaska but even more pristine. You can combine a kayaking trip in Patagonia with visits to the wine-producing areas further north for an amazing expedition.
If you love to sea kayak but you want a new adventure, someplace special, fun, and wonderfully beautiful, then you might consider a trip to Chile. The exciting aspect of sea kayaking in Chile is all the possibilities. For starters, you might think about heading to the Andean fjords of Chloe Archipelago and Pumalin Park, a magical place that makes up the northern landscape of this country. These wild mountains plunge into the sea with a backdrop of beautiful islands, as well as romantic and mysterious byways. You will discover a choice of two to nine-day sea kayaking trips in protected waters, some with, and some without large mother ships. Keep in mind that to sea kayak in Chile, you do not have to have any prior experience! Although the point of origin will differ based on the kayaking outfitting company, many will leave from Chiloe Island. What makes sea kayaking so great in Chile is all the incredible places. For example, Chiloe and the waterways are perfect! In addition to the water being ideal for kayaking, the overall area creates a wonderful memory. You will be provided with comfortable lodging, excellent meals, and convenient storage for your kayaks and equipment. The area also offers open pit barbecues, traditional bungalows called curantos, and a wood-fired hot tub where you and your new kayaking friends can relax after an adventurous day. Keep in mind that the heart of every successful sea kayaking experience in Chile is the guides. Having a guide with years of experience, one that can make your adventure fresh and exciting, a guide that can communicate with enthusiasm as he or she points out various things of interest is what sea kayaking is all about. Your guide should be acquainted with aboriginals, the flora, fauna, and the wildlife, teaching you about the area as you make your way through. An excellent place to sea kayak in Chile is between Chiloe Island and southern Chile called the Gulf of Ancud. There, the fjords are located on the continental side of the gulf, surrounded by a wonderful cluster of islands. During the summer months of January and February, temperatures will average 80 degrees with occasional rain. During the night, temperatures will drop to around 65 degrees. The sea temperature in the summer generally stays around 50 degrees. The nice thing about taking this sea kayaking trip is the peacefulness. Since this particular trip is not overly difficult, it is a good choice for beginner and intermediate kayakers. For this kayaking trip, you can choose from a two, four, six, and nine-day trip. Unlike other regions of Chile, this area has no poisonous snakes to worry about, nor are there any annoying insects, dangerous plants, or wild animals to fear. Even so, you will be in a wilderness area where weather and other risk factors exist, which is why a skilled kayaking guide is so crucial. For the longer trips, many kayaking outfitting companies would bring their own cooks to create delicious meals, often to include fresh shellfish found along the fjords. For the shorter sea kayaking trips, you would likely stay in local lodging with an on-site restaurant. No matter which sea kayaking trip you choose in Chile, you can be sure to gain a new appreciation for this beautiful country. The experience will be both intense and surprising, as you discover nature of the Chilean Patagonia, coupled with freedom, personal challenge, and the opportunity to meet new people, all with a love for the great outdoors just like you.
