Taking a Sea Kayaking Trip to BC

Are you ready for an adventure, one you can hang onto for the rest of your life? If so, then you should consider taking a sea kayaking trip to BC. Although there are a number of excellent tours and destinations in British Columbia to consider, one of the most popular for sea kayakers is the whale watching experience. Many of the sea kayaking tours will leave from Quadra Island, which is known to offer some of the finest sea kayaking around the globe.

From there, you will have a choice of several amazing places such as Desolation Sound, an isolated spot on the inner coast of BC and a favorite spot for sea kayakers. This part of BC was actually discovered in 1792 by Captain George Vancouver who sailed the sea while surveying the inner coast. As you sea kayak, you will find yourself surrounded by majestic mountains that come straight up out of the water.

The great thing about sea kayaking in Desolation Sound is that most mornings, you are greeted by a herd of seas, splashing and frolicking in the water and on nearby rocks. Other animals include the Black Oyster Catcher and Black Ravens. As you paddle along, you will be mesmerized by the sun rising on the water and the beautiful splashes of green color on the mountains from the moss and grass. The entire experience at Desolation Sound is incredible, allowing you to spend every day just soaking up nature and all its beauty.

For whale watching in BC, you definitely want to sea kayak at Johnstone Strait. Each year, more than 300 Killer Whales migrate to these waters where they will spend time feeding, sleeping, playing, and rubbing their bodies against the pebbles on the beach known as the Robson Bight Ecologically Reserve. What makes this sea kayaking trip so memorable is that these Killer Whales are friendly, allowing you to get up close.

During this migration time, other mammals make their way to Johnstone Straight to include Harbor Seals, Sea Lion, Dolphin, Minke Whales, Black Bear, and the almighty Eagle. The thrill of sitting in your kayak while being surrounded by a pod of friendly orca is indescribable. With this sea kayaking tour, you can not just tour these Killer Whales up close but travel up the inside passage through the famous Seymour Narrows where you end up at your base camp. While there, you will have the opportunity to do some on-shore exploring while spending time with your new kayaking friends.

Just remember that on your sea-kayaking trip to BC, especially when you visit Johnstone Strait, you will see Killer Whales 100% of the time. With a base camp right in the heart of an orca reserve, you are enjoying the experience of a lifetime. With quality guides and the chance to be deep into nature, you will be thrilled you make the decision to kayak in British Columbia.
